Less than two weeks later, the coalition had broken up, Chancellor Kurz had lost a no-confidence vote and the office – and Vengaboys came to Vienna. ![]() The following day, up to 20,000 people chanted the 20-year old Ibiza lyrics outside the chancellor’s office in Vienna after Heinz-Christian Strache, Vice-Chancellor of Austria, former neo-Nazi and leader of the right-wing populist Freedom Party (FPÖ), resigned. Shortly after the Ibizagate scandal unfolded, the party song transmogrified into a political protest anthem, fueled by comedian Jan Böhmermann who posted a link to the music video on 17 May. Unexpected to most, their 1999 hit “We’re going to Ibiza” is now back at the top of the charts in Austria. With lyrics like “We like, we like to party” or “Boom boom boom boom / I want you in my room”, Vengaboys are associated with the hedonistic audience of riotous beach parties. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, they scored a number of chart hits that made them the most commercially successful Dutch group after 2 Unlimited. Vengaboys is a Eurodance music group from the Netherlands. The song's accompanying 3-D video featured gossip columnist Perez Hilton, along with Euro-dance legend Pete Burns from the group Dead or Alive. After the release of their 2001 single "Forever as One," a pregnant Denise left the group to tend to life as a new mother and the Vengaboys went on hiatus. ![]() During the summer of 1996 the duo was joined by singers/dancers Kim, Robin, Roy, and Denise, all of whom became full-time members of the group with Danski and Delmundo locked in the studio, the four vocalists toured Europe under the Vengaboys name, followed in 1997 by the release of the single "Up and Down." The follow-up "We Like to Party! (The Vengabus)" appeared in 1998, followed shortly by the full-length The Party Album, which also featured the hit single "Boom Boom Boom Boom." The hit singles "Kiss When the Sun Don't Shine," "Shalala Lala," and "Uncle John from Jamaica" all landed on the 2000 effort The Platinum Album. Dance-pop troupe the Vengaboys were originally formed by Dutch DJs Danski and Delmundo, who performed live under the name between 19, additionally scoring a handful of underground club hits. ![]()
